KSFS Training Procedure

KSFS Binder

  • The KSFS binder should include sign-in sheets/log sheets, and discrepancy report sheets.
  • One of the first thing programmers should do is sign in. Pinpoint programmers where to do this.
  • Make sure programmers are logging the music being played in the log sheet.
  • Any equipment malfunctions and concerns pertaining to KSFS should be noted in the discrepancy report sheet.

Board Operation

  • Demonstrate the proper set-up before going on-air.
  • Go over how to properly use the audition and cue functions of the board.
  • Explain all the different volume controls and which speaker(s) it's attached to.
  • Explain to them what proper levels should look like on the VU meters by explain podding up each input. This will also explain and the different inputs the studio has for use (CD input, PC input, iPod, etc.) Go over the signal flow chart sheet.
  • Explain how to answer phone calls and how to pod them on the air.
  • Show programmers how to adjust mic levels for each individual that might be on the mic as well as showing how to adjust the volume controls for the headphones, cue and control room.
  • Always where headphone while on-air! Will solve problems with mic levels before they happen.
  • Go over any other miscellaneous questions that pertain to the basics of board-oping the on-air studio.

Recording

  • Show the proper use of the CD recorder.
  • Explain the importance in being early for their shows to make for good segués into the next show.
  • Explain any specifics to opening or closing the studio/lounge.
  • Go over getting a hold of C.A.T.S.
