How easy is it to get our vinyl library on to digital? -Baseball Legend, Michael Jordan
Do we have a 3/5/or 7 second delay? - John Mylod
burbleburbleburble?
Spell Checker has determined that "burbleburbleburble" is not a word. Please take Your hippie slang, and go back from whence you came. ;) -Sean
Huh, if anyone's actually read this... I was just wondering if I could still submit some of my shows to the loop thingy during the summer or next semester (even though I'm graduating now)? Just for the helluvit (also wanna get one my interviews in that I did toward the end of the sem that I'm quite proud of). -- JQ
A CD of your shows (or maybe one "best of" show) would be great on our loop. Be sure to delete any date & time references. -Jeff
I have a 2 hour show, is a one hour loop submission preferred?
I believe either one would be fine, although I would make the argument that a well edited, one hour version of your program would be best. -Jeff
Are we getting KSFS t-shirts anytime soon?
Yes indeed. Very soon. -Jeff
Regarding semester hours, what happens if I only complete 7 or 8 hours instead of 9?
Your head will grow a pineapple on top and your ears will fill with a green goo, and then birds will make nests in your eyebrows. So how about you just do the nine hours? -Jeff
Sounds quite intriguing... I sure do like pineapples... - Anonymous
Where can we find info about OSPLD online for future semesters to reference? -Sean
http://www.sfsu.edu/~ospld/ But before any further action is taken, please speak with me. -Jeff
Where are the opening and closing procedures located on the Wiki?
You'll find them near the bottom of the page (scroll down) titled Station Information.
Hours Questions: What happens if we don't have enough hours?
That would be difficult if you make an effort, so please make an effort. Jesff has explained that the consequences for not fulfilling the nine hours is dire, equal to not having a radio show. Please complete the Hours Requirement so you will not suffer those consequences
Ex: Sweep the station or straighten up the place and get an hour or two. Ask Sean how you can work on the Wiki for hours or ask Jaz for work in the music library or any number of other opportunities. Ask all of the managers for things you can do. You have their email addresses.
What happens if we have too many hours?
You will increase your Karmic potential.
What happens if we lose our Hour Log Sheet? Or if we forget to turn in our hours log sheet?
Don't do that. But if it happens, get another sheet and refill it in from memory. The world will keep spinning.
Can we also use the KSFS production studios to work on projects for other production classes outside of KSFS Radio II?
If you are on the list to use the KSFS facilities, use them as you wish. But don't tie up big chunks of time for projects outside of KSFS, particularly if the schedule looks full (check signup sheet). Let me know if this becomes an issue, in which case we'll look at changing this policy. -Jeff
How do we get access to mics for use in the Production Studios?
We maintain a KSFS microphone cabinet with several excellent microphones. Speak with Chris Morocco about access to the mics, pop screens, cables, and stands.
Can someone post the password for the AIM in the studio when we get it up and running?
The AIM password is the same password you use to access the contact page.
How can managers use the KSFS account at Rapid Copy in the library?
Have the Rapid Copy attendant finish your job. Payment can be sent to the KSFS account if you ask. The page is in the Creative Arts binder behind the BECA divider. This resource is exclusively for managers and should be approved by Jeff in advance if the job is large or expensive.
What Are Jacoby's office hours?
They are on the BECA website.
(Office Hours: Mon. 4-6, Tues. 5-6 and by appt.)
How can we put our recorded shows on the loop? Who should we talk to?
Please ensure that your recorded shows have few errors or time sensitive material. Give clearly labeled (show name, dj name, your name) to Andy, our Program Director. -meghan
I missed that student leadership meeting, I was wondering when is the next one? And where?
The next student leadership meeting will be Monday, February 25th from 4-5 p.m. Please contact Daniel Martinez for further questions. -meghan
In the Creative Arts pamphlet in the studio it says listeners can tune to ksfs on itunes, how can listeners tune in?
the Creative Arts pamphlet is referring to Podcasts made by KSFS Staffers. These are available through the iTunes store by searching 'KSFS'. Every Podcast made by present and past KSFS Members can be found this way.. As far as listening to a live stream of KSFS though iTunes Radio, this cannot happen. It has been researched and no radio stations have been added to this application in years. A third-party company operates this feature and have stopped adding new streams. - Andy
How do you put your callers on air? (What do you do on the board basically)
Simple. Answer the phone (the main line) and bring up the telephone fader on the board, just as you would bring up any other fader. I strongly urge, however, that you answer the phone first and determine if it's a call you actually want on the air. Also, you must inform them that they are on the air, or are about to be!
What is the policy regarding borrowing CDs?
As a matter of policy, please do not remove CD's from station facilities. Hard-working musicians send us free music in order for it to be played on KSFS. We would be breaking faith with them if we use the CD's any other way than broadcasting on the station. Also, imagine the organizational headache of allowing CD's to be borrowed!
Can someone please post the proper closing procedures?
Here are the procedures as I understand them. Feel free to add to this, folks!
- Segué from your last cut to the 24 hour loop, and set outgoing level.
- Clean up all station areas: floor swept, tables cleared, junk thrown out.
- Turn off lights & fans throughout facility. If gear is on, leave it on.
- Call CATS and let them know you are leaving.
- Close front door and make sure it is locked (wait for CATS if required).

Is Art valid if it is life?
Though I know my statements are subjective, I believe that art is something that is designed to captivate, be thought provoking, and emotionally move an audience. Therefore life can only be art if you as an audience if you allow yourself to be moved, and have your thoughts provoked. However, further discussion of this matter should be kept to philosophical forums. -Sean (Perhaps we should start our own)
What is ksfs' status in terms of non-profit organizations? is there a way for donation money to be funneled into a ksfs account? -meghan
Yes, KSFS is a considered a Non-Profit organization. From what I understand at this point, disclosure of funding information in a public forum has not been permitted by Jeff. I need to find out what exactly he's willing to share in order to give you a full response. --Sean
As Sean indicates, please direct all budgetary questions to me directly. But yes, KSFS is part of the BECA Department and SFSU, and as such, is a nonprofit (so donations of money & equipment, for example, are tax deductable). We would be delighted to accept donations and we do have an account for such things.
I recieved some budget information from Scott that I am able to disclose here, and should do so soon. -Sean 02-08-08
Q) What is Pro-Tools?
A) Pro-tools allows you to layer and edit tracks.
Layering tracks means you can put one track on top of another. That means you can put a track of your voice on top of song by lowering the volume of the song.
Editing sound means you can use pro-tools to edit recordings. Say you recorded yourself saying your station id, but you made a mistake. Pro-tools allows you to cut out the mistake. For example instead of saying KSFS Free for All, you said KSFS is not Free for All. You can use pro-tools to cut out "not".
Pro-tools hint: Save all of your files in one folder.
When you use pro-tools, you will create a project file and one or more audio files. You can think of the project file as a skeleton. It gives structure and order to the audio files, which act like the musles-without them the skeleton can't move, and your project won't make a sound.
If your music files and your project file are not in the same folder on the computer, pro-tools won't be able to play the file.
So please keep the audio files and the project files in the same folder. Think of it this way: the folder is the body. The skeleton and the muscles go inside, otherwise the project is dead.
